A Strategy Is Only as Strong as Its Connection to People
Case study: Bringing a first-in-a-decade strategic plan to life
Strategic Plan Launch / Case study

The Challenge
One of Georgia’s largest employers was introducing its first strategic plan in a decade. Leadership envisioned more than a launch event. They wanted the plan to become a living part of campus culture — understood, embraced, and reflected in everyday decisions and interactions.
The Approach
Caroline developed an implementation plan designed to bring the strategy to life across the organization. The plan combined a community-wide launch event, strategic communications, targeted micro-events, communication training, stakeholder mapping, celebrations, and tangible reminders of the plan’s priorities.
Just as importantly, she created opportunities for people to engage with the strategy, ask questions, share concerns, and see their perspectives acknowledged throughout the process.
What Changed
The rollout created a stronger sense of connection and a clearer understanding of how people could work together toward shared priorities. Caroline met directly with senior teams to review the plan and answer questions, while establishing feedback loops to surface concerns and close communication gaps.
Questions, doubts, comments, and expressions of support were all acknowledged and addressed — reinforcing that the strategy wasn’t simply something leadership announced. It was something the community could understand, engage with, and help bring to life.
The Kern Table Takeaway
A strategic plan only creates value when people can see their place in it. Turning strategy into everyday practice takes more than communication; it takes meaningful engagement, opportunities for feedback, and consistent connections between organizational priorities and people’s lived experiences.
